SELECTING AND SPECIFYING THE PRODUCT

1 Product Description and Suitable Applications

With Sealtec's expertise in waterproof membrane systems and our technical partnership with international membrane manufacturers and suppliers Henkel Polybit Industries Ltd, the Bitustick Self Adhesive Membrane System was developed for:

  • Waterproofing structures in contact with earth (horizontal & vertical)
  • Waterproofing internal wet areas (e.g. kitchens, laundries, bathrooms etc)

Bitustick is suitable for application to concrete, plywood, fibre cement and bituminous surfaces –see Substrate Requirements and Compatibility for full details.

Sealtec Waterproofing Systems are a complete membrane solution, supported by a range of specialty products to provide assurance and security against the penetration of water in any form.

With the fleece back membranes in this system, it makes direct stick tiling easy and affordable.

The Bitustick Self Adhesive Membrane System consists of polymer modified bitumen membranes cross laminated onto either tough HDPE film, polyester fleece or polypropylene fleece on one side and a silicone release film on the other side, giving the complete system excellent tensile strength, elongation, and tear resistance for superior durability.

The fleece back membranes all have a selvedge on one side of the membrane to give bitumen to bitumen contact on overlaps, thus restricting water penetration through the laps.

Sealtec has incorporated Bitustick TS tape under flashings and extra internal external corner gusseting in critical areas to be applied as part of the system.

Sealtec specify all ancillary products to be used as part of the Bitustick Self Adhesive Membrane System for ease of design and application.

Internal wet areas
i.e. Showers
External use - Structures in contact with earth

Internal plasterboard, timber, concrete substrates External concrete or fibre cement sheet substrates
External external timber, plywood substrates
Apply one coat of SealTAK acrylic based high bond adhesive primer at a spread rate of 4 – 6m2/litre. Apply one coat of Polyprime SB solvent based bituminous primer at a spread rate of 4 – 6m2/litre and allow to dry naturally. Apply one coat of SealBOND bituminous based adhesive primer at a spread rate of 4 – 6m2/litre and allow to dry naturally.

Detailing:

Strengthen all internal external corners with precut membrane gussets, torch applied to the primed substrate. Underflash all areas of horizontal floor to wall junction and vertical wall to wall junction over the timber fillet, with strips of Bitustick TS self adhesive tape prior to applying the Bitustick sheet membranes.

Membrane Installation:

Internal wet areas External use -Tanking
Below Grade Tanking
  • Firstly peel back approximately 800mm of the siliconised polyolefin film backing and place the Bitustick R, R250 and R400 membrane adhesive side down on to the preprimed substrate.
  • Slowly peel the backing film to allow the membrane to unroll evenly onto the primed surface.
  • Firmly press the membrane from the centre outwards using a broom or roller to ensure that all air pockets have been removed.
  • Allow for 50 - 80mm longitudinal overlap on selvedge. All other joints shall be butt jointed, supported using Bitustick TS tape and joint sealed using Sealtec Sealpro 151.
  • Firstly peel back approximately 800mm of the siliconised polyolefin film backing and place the Bitustick XL membrane adhesive side to the preprimed substrate.
Allow for 80mm longitudinal overlaps and 100mm transverse overlaps, on completion hot trowel seal all end and side joints to ensure correct closure.
